Loxahatchee, Before You Scout

Loxahatchee is a mailing address more than a municipality. Most of it is unincorporated Palm Beach County, so there is no city hall to call; the county's offices are the ones that matter, and the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission is the place to ask whether a shoot of your size needs a permit. Nearby Loxahatchee Groves, Westlake and Royal Palm Beach are separate towns with their own rules, so confirm which one your crew will actually be standing in.

The land is flat, wide and western: farms, horse properties and acre-plus lots on well and septic rather than city utilities, with canals and drainage swales running along the roads. That is why the light here is open and the skyline is empty, and it is also why weather matters. Summer afternoons bring storms, hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, and a low, flat site drains slowly after heavy rain, so we would plan morning calls from June through October and keep a rain day in the schedule.

The farm sits on Okeechobee Blvd, a main east-west road, and is roughly twenty minutes from Wellington, The Acreage and Royal Palm Beach and about half an hour from West Palm Beach.

Loxahatchee Photo Shoots — FAQ

Is The Bell Farm a photo shoot location in Loxahatchee?

Yes. The Bell Farm is a working farm at 16140 Okeechobee Blvd, Loxahatchee, FL 33470, and it takes photo and film bookings by phone. Call (561) 779-3213 with the type of shoot, the date and what you need from the property.

Which government office covers a shoot in Loxahatchee?

Most of Loxahatchee is unincorporated Palm Beach County, so county offices apply rather than a city hall. Whether a particular shoot needs a permit depends on its size and what it involves, so ask the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission before you commit to a date.

When is the best time of year to shoot in Loxahatchee?

The wet season brings afternoon storms and the Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, so a morning call time is the safer plan in summer. The drier months give steadier light. The seasonal events calendar on this site shows what the farm looks like month by month.

Does the farm publish a day rate for photo shoots?

No. Every shoot differs in crew size, scope and time on the property, so cost is discussed on the phone. Call (561) 779-3213.

What is there to photograph at the farm?

Sugarcane, tropical water lilies, chickens and ducks that live on the property, a young native-plant nursery, and America, our hand-converted 1979 Blue Bird bus.

Can a crew stay near the shoot?

There are two farm-stay units on the property. The farm stay guide covers both, which suits a crew with an early call time.
