West Palm Beach, Before You Scout

West Palm Beach is the county seat and an incorporated city, with its own Development Services Department, Building Division. Four of its neighborhoods, El Cid, Flamingo Park, Old Northwood and Southland Park, are designated City of West Palm Beach Historic Preservation districts, which is a good reason their bungalows and streets look the way they do and a reason to ask the city before you plan a shoot on them. For the public side of any shoot, the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission is the place to ask whether your size of crew needs a permit.

The Bell Farm is not in that jurisdiction. It sits at 16140 Okeechobee Blvd in Loxahatchee, which is mostly unincorporated Palm Beach County, so the county rather than the city is the office that matters, and there are no street closures or neighbors in your frame. Okeechobee Blvd runs straight west out of West Palm Beach, and the drive is roughly half an hour, so a crew can leave the city after breakfast and be shooting on open ground.

West Palm Beach shoots also share its weather. The city's coastal core falls in the 170 mph design-wind band, and hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30, with storms on most summer afternoons. We would plan morning calls from June through October and keep a rain day on the schedule, wherever you shoot.

Also in West Palm Beach

Planning a shoot usually means planning the property it happens on, so if you are also working in West Palm Beach you may need construction help for a set or a home, a roofer ahead of storm season, association management if the location is a community, or land clearing for a lot you want to open up.

Photo Shoot Location West Palm Beach — FAQ

Is The Bell Farm inside the City of West Palm Beach?

No. The farm is at 16140 Okeechobee Blvd, Loxahatchee, FL 33470, in western Palm Beach County. West Palm Beach is an incorporated city with its own Development Services Department, Building Division; the farm sits outside the city, so a shoot here is planned with the county rather than the city.

Where is a good photo shoot location near West Palm Beach?

If you want open sky and real farm ground instead of a city street, The Bell Farm in Loxahatchee has sugarcane, tropical water lilies, farm animals, a young native-plant nursery and a hand-converted 1979 Blue Bird bus. Call (561) 779-3213 to talk through your shoot.

Do I need a permit to shoot in West Palm Beach itself?

That depends on where you stand and how big the shoot is. The historic districts of El Cid, Flamingo Park, Old Northwood and Southland Park and the public streets are the city's ground, so ask the City of West Palm Beach and the Palm Beach County Film and Television Commission before you commit to a street location.

Why shoot at a farm instead of in the city?

A farm has no street closures, no neighbors in the frame and a skyline that is empty, and everything on the ground is real and working. The trade is a drive west and a plan for weather, which a city location has too.

What does a shoot at the farm cost?

There's no published day rate; every shoot differs in scope, crew size and time on the property. Call (561) 779-3213 and we'll talk about cost directly.

Does hurricane season affect scheduling?

It can. Hurricane season runs June 1 to November 30 and summer afternoons bring storms, so for those months plan a morning call and keep a rain day in the schedule.

Can a crew stay on the property?

There are two farm-stay units on site. The farm stay guide covers both, useful for a crew with an early call time.

How do I book?

Call or text Randolph at (561) 779-3213, or use the form on this page. Tell us the type of shoot, the date and what you need from the property.
